Chansophea Proeurn

Hello! My name is Chansophea. I was born in 2002. I graduated from university in 2022. I have only one sister. I got married in 2021. Now I have a daughter. Nowadays I live with my husband, my daughter and my parents-in-law.

When I was young, I lived with my grandparents in Kompot province. My parents went to work in Thailand because they couldn’t find any proper jobs in Cambodia. At that time my parents couldn’t earn enough money to support the family. My grandmother made and sold Khmer cakes at that time. After school, I always helped her make the cakes. I also walked around the village to sell the cakes. My neighbors love me so much, they usually gave me money when I helped them do something. I continued to live with my grandparents until I finished my grade 9. After that I moved to Battambang to live with my aunt and uncle. I started my 10th grade in Battambang. I have lived in Battambang since that year until now. High school years were very tough for me. My aunt and uncle sometimes did not keep rice and food for me in the evening. So, when I came back from school, I had nothing to eat. I stayed hungry at night. One thing was, I needed money to study part time but my parents could not make an effort. Three years passed, and I finally graduated from high school in 2018. However, it was a hard time again because I needed to start my university but my parents could not pay for the university fee. I started to find a job in order to earn money. I was a volunteer English teacher for three months, but I quit because I really needed money for my university fee. Luckily, I went to my university to take a scholarship test and I got a 100% scholarship. So, I did not need to pay the money. My family and I were very happy. In December 2018, I found a job as an English teacher in a private school. I could earn some money. I worked there until November 2019 and then I quit.

I was trying to find a new job and my teachers and friends at school told me about TASSEL. I did research about TASSEL and decided to apply my CV. I was so lucky; I passed the interview. I have been working at TASSEL since December 2019 until now. Before I joined TASSEL, I only worked to earn money. After I joined TASSEL, I changed my mind. I really love teaching the students at TASSEL. Their situations are not really different from mine. I also love doing family visits. I love listening to the families’ situations. I love working at TASSEL more day by day. I am not only an English teacher but also the one whom my students and the villagers trust the most. However, I have learned more from life and I am able to help the suffering people. I am so happy and thankful that I can work with TASSEL where I can serve the poor and the sad people.
